The Differences between Mineral and Chemical Sunscreens
Chemical Sunscreens
Ingredients: chemicals (i.e. oxybenzone, oxtinoxate) that convert UV rays to heat
May be irritating in sensitive skin
Can worsen melasma (due to heat in chemical reaction)
No white film on the skin
Takes 20-30 min to work
Mineral Sunscreens
Ingredients: Zinc Oxide, Titanium Dioxide, which physically block UV rays
Less irritating in sensitive skin
Protection starts immediately
Can aggravate acne prone skin
Takes longer to apply
